This weekend (5th March) Leith take on Trinity in what is sure to be a hotly contested game. Club president Jim Smith will also be hosting his annual Presidents Day and is encouraging all former Leith Players, coaches and officials to come to Academy Park for what will be a very tight game. Only 5 points separate 5th place Leith and 6th place Trinity, so everything is at stake.
I am sure there will be many tales being told on the sidelines and in the bar today of previous Leith v Trinity derbies and I hope the current Leith squad get to create their own stories on the pitch today. We have been able to enjoy success over Trinity in our past 3 games stretching back to last season, the last of which was a 21-15 win at Bangholm. However we all know that on derby day everyone will be giving that extra 10% and form will count for very little, Leith are prepared for Trinity to throw the kitchen sink at us today in order for them to overturn their fortunes in this result.
In case you needed your mouth watered any further I will leave you with an exert from Craig Winton's poem 'Derby Day' which made its debut at our Burns Supper (buy Craig a few drinks on Saturday to hear the full version!!) -
"Nothing brings you closer than a win over your rivals
Everyone hates Trinity, even our new arrivals
And so as I sit in the sheds 'South Shores' ringing in my ears
All I can say is I hope we keep beating them for a number of years."
