Saturday sees our annual President's Day event, and the visit of Trinity Accies for the hottest derby ticket in North Edinburgh. Leith will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing performance last time out in meek defeat to Hawick Linden, and regain the momentum that had developed prior, following 3 consecutive wins at Liberton, Lismore and a thumping of Inverleith. Our visitors Trinity were frustrated last weekend by the cancellation of their fixture by Earlston, their having been eager to regain form following a couple of losses at the beginning of the month, their first of the season to Dalkeith and Portobello respectively. Trinity had gone through September undefeated, having won fixtures with Gala YM and Edinburgh University Medics, and drawn two, with Broughton and the season opener at Hawick Linden.
Games between Leith and Trinity have been entertaining affairs over the past few seasons, with 3 wins apiece since Leith regained promotion to East 2. Backed by a big Leith crowd, the home side will look to set their season right with a strong performance this weekend. Here's to another great game between 2 old foes whose good-natured rivalry begins at high school level, and has been played out at senior level since the 1920s.
President's Day will kick off with the 2nd XV's fixture at home to Caledonian Thebans at 1pm, providing an Academy Park double header for those attending, as the 2s look to continue their progress in what has been a stop start season. Thebans last fixture was a lively 19-32 defeat at home to Dunbar/North Berwock 2nd XV at the start of the month.
