This Saturday sees the long-awaited return of competitive action for Leith, with a visit to Inverleith Park to face Edinburgh Northern. The two clubs are well known to one another, going into a 6th season out of 7 in the same division and with many a close-run encounter to reflect on during that period. Season 2011-12, (the one with the ridiculous playoffs!) saw the teams nearly move in together, doing battle 4 times, including the last day of the season at Inverleith when the Northern men were presented with the East 2 trophy. Fast-forward to 2013-14, after Leith had joined Northern in East 2, and the game where the referee miscounted the score, and despite both captains advising that Northern were ahead, the referee blew the whistle and awarded the game to Leith, only for the clubs to agree on the correct score! Last season saw two high-scoring encounters, with each winning side winning their away fixture fairly comfortably. All things considered, this weekend's Edinburgh Shield Round 1 tie should provide another exciting game. Get down to Inverleith Park to cheer on the Leithers!
